The Air Instrument Technician Associate is distinguished from the Air Instrument Technician in that the Associate performs basic technical work that includes filter installation, filter collection, operation, and maintenance of sampling units during the week. The position is grant-funded and full-time at 30 hours per week, with scheduled work five days a week which includes frequent weekend and holiday schedules. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require One year of technical experience in electronics, mechanical repair, and maintenance High school diploma or GEDPost-secondary education in electronics may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis Other Requirements Air Instrument Associates must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hirePer the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), BioWatch Technicians need to be U.S. or Naturalized citizens of the United States of America and are required to successfully complete a DHS background checkBioWatch participants must pass a health physical and OSHA respirator certification within six months of hire and every year thereafter; if an emergent need arises, Air Instrument Associates staff not identified as BioWatch may be sent for a physicalAir Instrument Associates must complete certification in the USEPA 40-Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operation Course within one year of hire date We Also Value Associate degree or higher in electronics or a closely related field Five years of experience in the field of electronic repair and maintenance Job Contributions Collect and transport air quality samples to the lab, using chain of custody documentation based on a collection schedulePerform mandated quality control and quality assurance checks, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually, in accordance with DHS regulationsAssemble, install, operate, repair, maintain, calibrate sampling units, rebuild pumps, and document associated eventsMaintain and track sampler instrument performance logs and reports in accordance with DHS regulationsParticipate in DHS environmental sampling, exercises, and special eventsParticipate in training as required Working Conditions Work is typically performed in a combination of office and field environments, driving a county-issued vehicle, with occasional exposure to fumes, smoke, and dust; work is frequently performed outdoors and may be performed during periods of high temperatures and humidity, including days when the temperature exceeds 110° FMust be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, climb, balance, or crouchMay be required to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and/or holidaysMust have sufficient manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipmentMust be able to manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, and multiple and complicated tasks.
