Duties And Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and locates malfunctions, disassembles, repairs, replaces, and/or adjusts thermostats, pressure stats, humidistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices.
  • Disassembles and repairs compressors and related components, services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers, repacks valves, replaces electric motors, belts, and pulleys, lubricates moving parts, replaces and/or cleans filters, bleeds systems, and replaces refrigerants.
  • Tests for leaks and for excessive load conditions, reconditions, modifies, and fabricates parts.
  • Performs the full range of work involved in the installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of industrial and domestic reach-in and walk-in refrigerators, including installing split HVAC systems, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, pre-fabricated boxes, etc., cold storage and cold room equipment, freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units and systems, and related equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Hoists holders and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers.
  • Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, where parts of systems worked on are often in hard-to-reach places.
  • Stoops, stretches, bends, and kneels for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed indoors and occasionally outdoors, often in cramped and awkward positions.
  • Work is frequently dirty and greasy.
  • Variable temperatures occur when working in cold storage rooms.
  • Workers are subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shocks.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

  • One year of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of duties in connection with the Installation and repair of air-conditioning refrigeration systems.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE

  • One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

  • Five years of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of work involved in the installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of industrial and domestic reach-in and walk-in refrigerators, installing split HVAC systems, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, pre-fabricated boxes, etc., cold storage and cold room equipment, freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units and systems, and related equipment.
  • Current Universal Technician Certification.
