About the role

Carnegie Mellon University seeks a strategic partner to lead the development and implementation of AI solutions across the institution. This role requires a deep understanding of AI principles, experience in designing and deploying AI solutions, and the ability to bridge technical and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Define AI strategy alongside senior leadership, aligning institutional goals with technical roadmaps.
  • Design and prototype solutions that validate feasibility and demonstrate potential outcomes.
  • Work with various teams to ensure solutions are deployed and integrated effectively.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures, reusable patterns, and operational playbooks for scalable AI.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community events to promote the adoption of AI across the university.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in AI/ML solution design, technical consulting, or architecture-focused roles.
  • Experience in taking AI projects from idea to production, including working systems.
  • Comfortable with cloud platforms and capable of designing solutions that span on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translate business needs into actionable requirements.
  • A bachelor's degree or relevant experience is required. A master's degree or comparable experience is considered a plus.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences and translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in building and maintaining scalable AI infrastructure and processes.
  • Passion for innovation and a commitment to ethical and responsible AI practices.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI/ML, such as Python, R, or Java.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
