About the role

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S., was founded in 1978 and is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. It is engaged in the construction and sale of high-quality homes designed principally for the entry-level and first time move-up markets. The Company also provides mortgage financing and title services for homebuyers through its mortgage and title subsidiaries.

As the nation's largest homebuilder by volume, D.R. Horton is transforming how it uses data, AI, and digital solutions for the next generation of homebuilding, pairing the reach of a national enterprise with a culture built on local ownership, practical innovation, and deep business partnerships. Teams focus on solutions that work in the field and deliver real results, not technology for its own sake.

The AI Solution Architect (also known as AI Solution / Data Architect) will help define how modern data and AI capabilities come together in secure, scalable, and reusable solutions. This hands-on architecture role translates business problems into solution patterns, guides critical design decisions, and connects data, applications, integration, security, and AI services into production-ready architectures. The ideal candidate moves comfortably between strategy, architecture, and implementation while helping teams build for both today's needs and tomorrow's possibilities.

This role focuses on solution-level architecture for specific products and use cases, working within the enterprise standards set by the Principal Enterprise Platform Architect. Success means priority solutions ship on reusable, well-documented architectures that teams can extend, with design decisions made quickly and tradeoffs understood by business and technical leaders alike. Ability to travel overnight is required.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business and product requirements into end-to-end solution architectures covering data, AI, APIs, applications, identity, security, observability, and support
  • Define domain data models, data flows, integration patterns, semantic access, RAG/knowledge patterns, and AI service interactions
  • Ensure priority solutions align to enterprise reference architectures while documenting justified exceptions and local configuration needs
  • Lead technical design sessions and architecture reviews with engineering, platform, security, governance, vendors, and business subject-matter experts (SMEs)
  • Evaluate solution alternatives and communicate tradeoffs in speed, complexity, cost, security, scalability, and maintainability
  • Represent the function in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational-readiness, and continuous-improvement activities as appropriate
  • Stay current on relevant data, AI, digital, software, and industry practices and apply new capabilities when they create practical business value
  • Identify, shape, and pilot new opportunities where data, AI, and digital capabilities can create business value, operating with an owner's mindset and a bias toward building, testing, and learning quickly
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of solution architecture, data architecture, software engineering, data engineering, or related experience
  • Strong knowledge of modern data platforms, APIs/integration, cloud architecture, AI/ML and generative AI patterns, security, and observability
  • Experience designing production solutions that span multiple systems and teams
  • Strong communication and ability to explain architecture to both business and technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, communicate clearly, and deliver results in an evolving environment
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across the organization, balancing enterprise standards with business needs and operating realities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Snowflake, Azure, Microsoft ecosystem, RAG and vector search, semantic layers and data contracts, agentic architectures, MCP (Model Context Protocol) and tool integration, model routing and provider abstraction, hybrid cloud and private inference, document AI and unstructured data, or comparable technologies
  • Experience in homebuilding, real estate, construction, mortgage, title, land development, sales, purchasing, finance, customer care, or another distributed operating business
  • Experience working in a large enterprise with complex enterprise environments
  • Experience founding, incubating, or building new products, capabilities, or businesses from the ground up

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental and Vision
  • 401(K)
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Flex Spending Accounts
  • Life & Disability Insurance
  • Vacation, Sick, Personal Time and Company Holidays
  • Multiple Voluntary and Company provided Benefits
