AI & Product Counsel
Role Overview
Coupang's legal team plays a critical role in driving our phenomenal growth by managing legal risks and enabling innovation. As an AI & Product Counsel, you will manage a portfolio of product reviews and act as a strategic partner to business teams. You will also function as an ambassador, championing Coupang's leadership principles and corporate culture. This position can be based in Mountain View, CA or Seattle, WA.
What You Will Do
- Review AI-powered product features and complex technical specifications to provide practical legal guidance while mitigating risk.
- Drive company-wide AI reviews by conducting rigorous assessments of technical details and balancing engineering requirements with legal frameworks to solve complex problems.
- Partner closely with engineering, product management, security, and privacy teams to integrate legal requirements into the product development lifecycle.
- Communicate complex legal concepts and technical insights effectively to diverse stakeholders across the company.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to build scalable processes for AI governance and product compliance.
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and 7+ years of total legal experience, including a combination of major law firm and in-house experience
- Prior experience in product counseling or AI governance
- Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to solve problems through creative thinking and partnerships with other teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and attain challenging targets through personal drive
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of privacy, data governance, and AI
- Relevant IAPP certifications (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, AIGP) are preferred and will be considered an asset
- Expertise in the EU AI Act and e-commerce industries
Pay & Benefits
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
