About the role

The Sensor Modeling and Simulation Department (SMSD) supports all aspects of advanced remote sensing system development: designing and assessing the performance of optics and electro-optical focal plane arrays, modeling the end-to-end sensing system, simulating target scenes and atmospheres, developing innovative data processing and computer vision algorithms, and producing simulated data products for new applications. The department’s Machine Intelligence Exploitation section specializes in applying Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) to extract information from and enhance the value of our customers’ data. Applications include data fusion/integration, computer vision, pattern recognition and anomaly detection on large, varied datasets for automation, discovery, and predictive modeling.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop innovative and sophisticated AI/ML applications for information extraction including computer vision, data fusion, pattern recognition, and anomaly detection in support of automation and predictive modeling.
  • Explore the art of the possible and prototype AI/ML-based solutions for the government across multiple domains.
  • Review and characterize the performance of contractor-supplied AI/ML solutions to support program acquisition activities.
  • Inform the government on an effective path forward in the application of AI/ML to their mission.
  • Support a portfolio of high-impact projects, engaging with other experts across multiple disciplines to explore innovative enterprise solutions to critical national missions.

Minimum Requirements

Engineering Specialist

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program in the physical sciences, engineering, computer science or related technical discipline.
  • Eight or more years of experience post bachelor’s degree working with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Experienced using Python to implement AI/ML and data science solutions.
  • Strong desire to grow your knowledge and expertise in the application of AI/ML to data fusion, computer vision, pattern recognition, anomaly detection and predictive modeling.
  • Desire to learn signal and/or image processing and the underlying physical phenomenologies.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI access clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Sr. Engineering Specialist:

  • Twelve years of experience after bachelor’s degree.
  • Background in signal processing, image science, spectral analysis, spatial analysis and/or computer vision.
