AI/ML Engineer, Senior

About the Role

GRVTY is seeking a Senior AI/ML Engineer to support the design, development, and operational deployment of machine learning capabilities applied to sensor data for national security missions. This role requires a deep understanding of modern ML architectures and the ability to implement solutions from the ground up in a mission context.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement machine learning models for detection, classification, and characterization of events and signatures within sensor data.
• Develop end-to-end ML workflows, including training data preparation, model development, evaluation, optimization, and deployment.
• Work closely with scientists and domain experts to understand sensor phenomenology, data characteristics, and mission requirements.
• Write production-quality Python code that is modular, well-documented, testable, and maintainable.
• Evaluate model performance rigorously, identify failure modes, and iterate systematically.
• Integrate ML capabilities into existing analytical pipelines and software environments.
• Mentor junior AI/ML developers, review code, and establish team-wide standards.
• Contribute to trade studies and architecture decisions, providing technically grounded recommendations.
• Prepare and deliver technical briefings and written documentation to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI and CI Polygraph.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a closely related field. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning, with a track record of deploying models in operational environments.
• Deep knowledge of modern ML architectures, including CNNs, transformers, and object detection frameworks.
• Expert-level Python programming, with experience in PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience building complete ML pipelines, from data ingestion to deployment.
• Ability to work with domain scientists, translating technical requirements into ML design and outputs.
• Experience mentoring junior developers in a hands-on technical capacity.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Experience applying ML to sensor data (EO/IR, hyperspectral, SAR, etc.) is a plus.
• Background in computer vision, image classification, anomaly detection, or event characterization.
• Experience training models on simulated or synthetic data.
• Familiarity with ML/Ops practices (experiment tracking, model versioning, etc.).
• Experience with large-scale geospatial or scientific datasets.
• Proficiency with scientific Python libraries (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, OpenCV, scikit-learn, etc.).
• Experience with cloud-based ML training environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) and GPU-accelerated compute.
• Prior experience supporting defense, intelligence, or classified customer environments.
• Ph.D. in a relevant quantitative field (Astronomy, Physics, Computer Science, etc.) is a plus.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $200,000—$240,000 USD, influenced by factors such as geographic location, experience, and certifications.
