About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead AI/ML Engineer to join our dynamic team dedicated to embedding artificial intelligence directly into clinical workflows such as Utilization Management (UM) and Care Management (CM). This role offers the unique opportunity to develop pragmatic AI solutions that are actively deployed within healthcare environments, impacting real patient care. As a Lead AI/ML Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of designing, developing, and operationalizing AI-driven applications that improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and support clinicians in delivering high-quality care. You will collaborate closely with clinical leaders, business stakeholders, and technical teams to translate complex healthcare challenges into scalable AI solutions. Your expertise will influence the technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and ensure responsible AI deployment within a regulated healthcare setting. This position provides flexibility to work remotely within the U.S., with specific in-office requirements for candidates in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (4+ years)
  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, including full stack development
  • 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud-native deployment
  • 3+ years of experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architectures
  • 3+ years of backend development experience with Node.js or similar frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • 3+ years of experience deploying applications on Microsoft Azure
  • 3+ years of experience working with RESTful APIs, authentication, and secure application design
  • 2+ years of experience integrating AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) into applications
  • Preferred: Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work in ambiguous environments

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain full stack applications utilizing Next.js, React, and TypeScript
  • Build and integrate AI capabilities powered by large language models, including summarization, search, and decision support tools
  • Design scalable, reliable, and secure backend services and APIs to support clinical workflows
  • Develop and optimize data models and queries using PostgreSQL, ensuring high performance and data integrity
  • Deploy, monitor, and operate applications on Microsoft Azure cloud platform, leveraging services such as App Services, Containers, and AI tools
  • Implement best practices for cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and cost management
  • Collaborate with system architects, AI engineers, and clinical stakeholders on system design and model integration
  • Write clean, well-documented, and testable code; lead code reviews and uphold technical standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical decision-making processes
  • Ensure AI solutions are deployed responsibly within a regulated healthcare environment, adhering to compliance standards
