In this role, you will design, develop, deploy, and optimize advanced AI capabilities that enable organizations to work with structured and unstructured public health data. You will work with emerging technologies including AI agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Large Language Models (LLMs) to deliver real-time insights and improve decision-making in mission-critical environments. The position combines AI architecture, machine learning engineering, data engineering, MLOps, and responsible AI practices. You will help design AI-agent data models, manage memory and state, build RAG pipelines, optimize retrieval performance, and establish evaluation frameworks to ensure AI systems deliver reliable and trustworthy results. ## Key Responsibilities * Serve as a strategic technical lead for AI and machine learning initiatives.* Integrate advanced AI technologies, including AI agents, into public health platforms.* Design AI solutions that enable dynamic interaction with structured and unstructured data.* Develop AI capabilities that support real-time insights and data-driven decision-making.* Design foundational architecture for AI-powered systems.* Develop data models to support AI agents and intelligent applications.* Design and implement memory and state-management mechanisms for AI agents.* Build, optimize, and maintain Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines.* Optimize retrieval workflows for public health use cases.* Develop strategies to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of AI systems.* Design and implement rigorous AI evaluation frameworks.* Monitor AI system reliability, performance, and output quality.* Continuously improve deployed AI solutions based on evaluation results.* Establish and maintain data quality, curation, and documentation standards.* Collaborate with cross-functional AI, data, engineering, and business teams.* Support machine learning model development, deployment, and optimization.* Apply responsible AI principles when working with sensitive public health information.* Maintain compliance with privacy requirements and anonymization protocols.* Support ethical and secure management of public health data.* Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. ## Required Qualifications * 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models.* 8+ years of experience working with Generative AI, LLMs, or RAG applications.* 8+ years of hands-on experience with Python for machine learning and data engineering.* Experience working with Microsoft Azure.* Strong SQL skills for data manipulation and feature engineering.* Knowledge of MLOps tools, including MLflow.* Experience developing and deploying production AI/ML systems.* Strong understanding of AI architecture and machine learning workflows.* Ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams.* Bachelor's degree in Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.* Ability to work onsite in Atlanta, Georgia as required.* Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements.* Ability to successfully pass required background and drug screening. ## Technical Skills * Python* Machine Learning* Generative AI* Large Language Models (LLMs)* Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)* AI Agents* Azure* SQL* Data Engineering* Feature Engineering* MLOps* MLflow* AI Evaluation* Data Modeling* Data Quality Management* AI System Architecture ## AI & Machine Learning Responsibilities The AI/ML Engineer will work across multiple areas of modern artificial intelligence, including: ### AI Agents Design and integrate AI agents capable of interacting dynamically with data and supporting mission-critical workflows. ### RAG Systems Build and optimize RAG pipelines that allow AI applications to retrieve relevant information from structured and unstructured public health datasets. ### Large Language Models Develop and integrate LLM-powered capabilities to support intelligent information access, analysis, and decision-making. ### AI Evaluation Create rigorous evaluation strategies to measure AI output quality, reliability, accuracy, and performance. ### AI Infrastructure Design scalable AI infrastructure and system architectures that support production deployments and future growth. ## Data & Privacy Because the position supports public health platforms, maintaining high standards for data quality, privacy, security, and responsible AI is essential. The engineer will: * Maintain data quality and curation standards.* Support accurate data documentation.* Apply appropriate anonymization practices.* Follow privacy requirements.* Support ethical AI development.* Help ensure responsible handling of sensitive public health information. ## Work Arrangement This is a **hybrid position based in Atlanta, Georgia**, with onsite work required. Candidates must be able to support the required onsite work schedule. ## Security & Background Requirements The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a **Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination**, depending on client requirements.
