AI/ML Engineer

Employees must live within a commutable distance of a Slalom office and be willing to be onsite at the client and/or Slalom office up to 3 days a week.

You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, data scientists, and AI thought leaders within Slalom's Data AI capability, focusing on next-level AI and Machine Learning solutions. We work across modern AI platforms, develop novel AI solutions, and collaborate with technology partners to push their products into the future.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy generative AI and machine learning solutions that solve business problems and improve how people work.
• Develop LLM-powered applications using RAG, agents, prompt engineering, tool and function calling, workflow automation, and fine-tuning where appropriate.
• Apply Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and other relevant technologies to assist in building AI tools that solve real business problems.
• Assist in the design, development, presentation, and delivery of traditional ML solutions in areas such as Computer Vision, NLP, and Recommendation Systems.
• Stay updated on fundamental AI/ML concepts and emerging trends to contribute to solution discussions and development.
• Contribute to the growth of the AI/ML community within the organization through learning, mentoring, and sharing knowledge.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience implementing models or machine learning algorithms into production.
• 2-4 years of professional Managed or IT Professional consulting experience.
• Strong consultative and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Solid technical foundation, combined with constant curiosity to stay on the creative edge of ML/AI solutions.
• Technical and conversational fluency in AI, GenAI, Machine Learning, and at least one of the major clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Hands-on experience building generative AI solutions using LLMs, embeddings, vector search, RAG, agents, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or model adaptation.
• Experience with AI validation, evaluation, observability, and production quality metrics such as accuracy, groundedness, safety, latency, cost, and drift.
• Experience deploying ML/AI into production, with the ability to discuss best practices and pitfalls.
• Understanding of validation frameworks for AI and ML tools, with knowledge of production-ready offerings for AI validation.
• Excellent Python skills, especially for ML/AI use cases.

Nice to Have

• Data Science and/or Data Engineering background.
• Experience in a sales support role within Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI.
• Familiarity with leading data platforms like Databricks and Snowflake.
• Experience implementing MLOps best practices and ML workflow tools, and the ability to translate this experience to creative LLMOps solutions.

Pay

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Targeted base pay salary ranges for this role are as follows:

• San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Seattle, Boston, Houston, New Jersey, New York City, Washington DC, Westchester:
  • Consultant: $130,000–$159,000
  • Senior Consultant: $163,000–$199,000
  • Principal: $192,000–$235,000
• All other locations:
  • Consultant: $119,000–$146,000
  • Senior Consultant: $149,000–$183,000
  • Principal: $176,000–$216,000

Individuals may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
