AI/ML Engineer ($250k-$400k + Equity) at Known

About the role

You will own the core matching and recommendation engines from zero to production scale. Working alongside founders from Uber and Cash App, you’ll build the systems that define the user experience for this voice-first dating app.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the production-scale recommendation and ranking algorithms that power the core single-match experience for every Known user.
• Lead the transition of matchmaking systems from experimental prototypes to robust, scalable production environments capable of handling high-growth consumer traffic.
• Grow and mentor a small, high-performing technical team while maintaining a hands-on approach to shipping high-quality, user-facing personalization features.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and scaling user-facing recommendation, matching, or ranking algorithms at an early-stage consumer company like Tinder, Instagram, or Spotify.
• Significant tenure as an early engineer during a 0→1 or rapid scaling phase, having stayed to see systems reach production maturity and scale.
• Strong leadership background with experience growing small technical teams and a passion for building intimate, high-signal personalization experiences for end users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with machine learning and data science tools and frameworks.
• Understanding of natural language processing and speech recognition technologies.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud platforms.

Skills

• Expertise in machine learning algorithms and models.
• Strong understanding of user behavior analysis and personalization techniques.
• Experience with recommendation systems and ranking algorithms.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or other relevant programming languages.
