AI Investor - Principal (New York)

About the role

A leading early‑stage venture capital fund is seeking an AI‑focused Investor to lead its thinking and investing across the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence ecosystem. This is a full‑time investing position dedicated to developing conviction around AI, building relationships with exceptional founders, and identifying the companies that will define the category.

Responsibilities

• Build and own a distinctive investment perspective across the AI landscape.
• Source and evaluate new investment opportunities.
• Develop relationships with founders and technical communities.
• Lead investments from initial thesis through diligence and decision‑making.
• Assess emerging technologies, markets, competitive dynamics, business models, and valuations.
• Help the partnership maintain a current, differentiated view of the AI ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Prior experience deploying capital as part of an investment team.
• Demonstrated, independently developed conviction about AI.
• Ability to discuss foundation‑model competition, open‑source vs. closed‑source ecosystems, AI infrastructure, application‑layer opportunities, consumer adoption, and valuation dynamics.
• Experience with consumer‑facing AI companies is strongly preferred.
• Proven track record of building personal networks and reputation within the AI or venture community.
• Strong technical breadth (though the role is investing‑focused, not engineering).
• Exceptional investment judgement, access to top‑tier founders, and credible experience evaluating or deploying capital.
• Open to candidates from venture capital, angel investing, founding/exiting technology companies, operating roles in leading AI businesses, or relevant academic/technical communities.
• Preferred seniority: Principal (open to exceptional candidates from Principal through Partner).
• Location preference: New York or San Francisco (not an absolute requirement).
