AI Investor - Associate

About the role

A leading early‑stage venture capital fund is seeking an AI‑focused Investor to lead its thinking and investing across the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence ecosystem. This is a full‑time investing role dedicated to developing conviction around AI, building relationships with exceptional founders, and identifying the companies that will define the category. The fund has ~20 team members (≈12 on the investment team) and has recently raised an approximately $220 million fund that is early in its deployment. Its AI portfolio spans consumer applications, infrastructure, research, and agents, and the investment model combines early‑entry positions with the ability to concentrate capital behind the strongest convictions.

Responsibilities

• Build and own a distinctive investment perspective across the AI landscape.
• Source and evaluate new investment opportunities.
• Develop and nurture relationships with founders and technical communities.
• Lead investments from initial thesis through diligence, decision‑making, and execution.
• Assess emerging technologies, markets, competitive dynamics, business models, and valuations.
• Help the partnership maintain a current, differentiated view of the AI ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Proven experience deploying capital as part of an investment team.
• Demonstrated, independently developed conviction about AI and the ability to discuss topics such as foundation‑model competition, open‑source vs. closed‑source ecosystems, AI infrastructure, application‑layer opportunities, consumer adoption, and valuation dynamics.
• Strong technical breadth (though the role is investing‑focused, not engineering).
• Experience with consumer‑facing AI companies is highly valued.
• Established network and reputation in the AI founder community, rather than reliance solely on an established firm’s brand.
• Background may include venture capital, angel investing, founding and exiting a technology company, operating within a leading AI business, or relevant academic/technical communities.
• Demonstrated strong investment judgement, access to exceptional founders, and credible experience evaluating or deploying capital.

Preferred level and location

• Preferred seniority: Principal (open to exceptional candidates from Principal through Partner).
• Preferred locations: New York or San Francisco (location not an absolute requirement).
