About the role

The opportunity involves partnering with large design-build companies to build custom AI tools and strategies that make their teams more effective. The role requires someone who can travel to active jobsites, shadow project teams, and develop a deep understanding of how work gets done, where it breaks down, and where technology can genuinely help.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured job shadows of Project Engineers, Project Managers, and superintendents across various project types to map how work actually flows day-to-day and identify areas of friction, waste, and brilliance.
  • Extract and codify expert knowledge from experienced construction professionals, synthesizing field observations into actionable briefs for Human Agency's venture studio and product teams.
  • Build and maintain a living knowledge base of construction workflows, pain points, and technology gaps across the client's project portfolios.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies like autonomous equipment, AI-assisted estimating, and reality capture tools against real jobsite needs and develop technology fit assessments.
  • Contribute to Human Agency's venture studio thesis on AEC industry trends and technology gaps, providing a practitioner's perspective on contech trends and investment-worthy companies.
  • Help jobsite teams understand and adopt AI-assisted workflows, translating AI capabilities into construction language and identifying the highest-leverage AI use cases for specific roles and project types.
  • Surface adoption barriers, user friction, and workflow mismatches back to the product team to ensure tools get better with each visits.

Requirements

  • Construction industry experience (3+ years) with time spent on or around jobsites, including project engineering, project management, field operations, or construction technology.
  • Deep fluency with the contech landscape, following the space obsessively and having a point of view on where it's all heading.
  • AI literacy that goes beyond using ChatGPT, building workflows, and demonstrating how AI tools change the way people work.
  • Exceptional communication skills across audiences, able to have a credible conversation with a superintendent on a jobsite and brief a C-suite on technology strategy.
  • Comfort with heavy travel (60–80%) to jobsites across the country.
  • Natural credibility with construction professionals due to understanding the work, not just the tools.

Qualifications

  • Direct experience with construction technology platforms (Procore, PMWeb, OpenSpace, Bluebeam, BIM tools, or similar).
  • Background in construction technology or AEC innovation.
  • Experience in technology evaluation, venture analysis, or strategic advisory roles.
  • Familiarity with how AI products are built and understanding the connection between field insights and user research and product decisions.
  • Comfort operating in a consulting structure where you're embedded in a client's organization and culture.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
