About Helm

Helm is building the infrastructure for a simulation-driven future. Our platform composes physics, economic, social, and organizational simulation engines into unified, cross-domain predictions — the kind no single-domain tool can make. A drought cascades into commodity shocks, consumer sentiment shifts, and policy change: Helm models the entire chain, validated against real-world historical data, in one platform.

We're a small, high-conviction team and we plan to stay that way. The people here get real ownership, move fast, and work without bureaucratic overhead. We hire for curiosity, rigor, and the drive to build things that feel genuinely hard. If you want your work to show up in how organizations understand and navigate a complex world, come build with us.

About The Role

Software Engineering in the simulation space is the bridge between research and product. When our researchers prove out a new way to model populations, simulate cascades, or score predictions, you're the one who turns those ideas into production-grade systems — the abstractions, contracts, evaluation harnesses, and workflows that become the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own a production simulation platform, design the core reusable abstractions, objects, interfaces and evaluation frameworks.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure across various domains.
  • Optimize multi-agent systems for speed and cost.
  • Work closely with researchers and customer-facing team members.
  • Develop the analysis and output layers that turn raw simulation data into decision-ready artifacts.

Requirements

  • You are very good at using “claude code” in a high-stake production environment.
  • You have deep ML/AI expertise and meaningful production experience with large language models.
  • You've run rigorous ML experiments end-to-end: hypothesis, evaluation, deployment.
  • You have 3+ years of hands-on experience building ML/AI systems in research or applied settings.
  • You're comfortable across the full model lifecycle: data, training, evaluation, and production.
  • You've shipped ML-powered features working cross-functionally with engineering and product teams.
  • You're driven to push the boundaries of what simulation technology can do.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Publications at top ML venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).
  • Experience building or fine-tuning multi-agent systems.
  • Background in probabilistic modeling, Bayesian inference, or causal reasoning.
  • Hands-on experience with agent-based modeling, discrete-event simulation, Monte Carlo methods, or other simulation and prediction systems.
  • Familiarity with hybrid architectures combining LLMs with classical statistical or ML methods.
  • Domain depth in quantitative fields: quant finance, computational social science, etc.
  • A research sensibility — comfortable reading papers, prototyping with researchers, and contributing to published work.

Location

This role is based in Seattle. Helm is an in-person team. Candidates should be in the Seattle metro area or open to relocating. We provide free on-site housing as a benefit.
