AI Automation Engineer - Mid-level
Location: NYC, Fairfield, NJ, or Los Angeles (Hybrid 3 days in-office)
Salary: $125K - $145K base + benefits
About the role
We are looking for an AI Automation Engineer to join a fast-moving technology team that is transforming how a major national organization operates. If you are excited by the idea of hunting down broken manual processes, replacing them with elegant AI-powered automations, and seeing your work used across dozens of business teams, this role will feel like a playground.
You will work side-by-side with a Senior Automation Engineer, embed directly with internal stakeholders, and ship production work from day one. This is a role for someone who loves building real systems, learning fast, and becoming the person people call when something complicated needs to be untangled and automated.
This is engineering-first. If you write clean code, design thoughtful APIs, and can debug a gnarly production issue, you will thrive here. Everything else—our internal AI tools, our automation frameworks, our domain—you will learn on the job.
You will also contribute to our internal AI platform, built on modern tooling and LLM infrastructure. Early on, you will ship small features under review; as you grow, you will own larger components and integrations.
Responsibilities
- Partner with a Senior Automation Engineer to deliver AI-powered automations that real business teams rely on every day.
- Build AI agents and workflows using modern LLM frameworks for both lightweight and system-level use cases.
- Contribute to our internal AI platform, shipping features, integrations, and improvements that raise the engineering bar.
- Work across REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, SQL, Snowflake, Salesforce, and other systems that power our automations.
- Learn from senior engineers while mentoring junior talent—you will grow in both directions.
Requirements
- 2+ years of production software experience (internships count if the work shipped).
- Strong engineering fundamentals—clean code, clear reasoning, and the ability to debug unfamiliar systems.
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs or AI tools (professional, academic, or side projects).
- Practical experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, RDS, IAM).
- Proficiency in Python or TypeScript/Node, plus comfort with SQL.
- Experience integrating APIs (REST, JSON, OAuth) and connecting systems together.
- Curiosity and comfort working directly with business stakeholders—you are not afraid to ask questions and turn messy problems into clean solutions.
- A portfolio, GitHub, or project that shows you can ship.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Copilot Studio, Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Familiarity with modern TypeScript stacks (Next.js, Vercel AI SDK).
- Exposure to agent frameworks (MCP, A2A).
- Experience with Snowflake or modern analytics tooling.
- Background in advertising or digital media (not required).
