This Agronomy Technician role supports the agronomy efforts of the Hawaii Research Center, focusing on agronomic activities to reliably produce high-quality seed for the research organization. The position is based on Kauai, Hawaii.

$1,500 sign-on bonus. No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance is provided for this role.

Responsibilities

• Assist in scheduling, coordination, and operation of farm and spraying equipment (e.g., sprayers and tractors).
• Ensure proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and adherence to product label directions.
• Assist with data entry in agronomy databases.
• Print and post WPS records.
• Manage and track IPM chemical inventory.
• Assist with spraying, chemigation, posting signs, cleaning equipment, and replacing nozzles.
• Maintain equipment in safe working condition.
• Ensure chemicals are applied in accordance with label instructions.
• Maintain chemical inventory, pesticide storage, and safety stations.
• Assist with deploying new equipment for IPM and agronomy.
• Spray fence lines and fallow areas.
• Perform crop scouting.
• Provide input to supervisors for short- and long-term planning.
• Participate in personal development activities as part of performance management.
• Assist with developing protocols.
• Support other groups with tasks such as cover crop planting, mowing, crop destruction, drip tape removal, hand weeding, UTV/backpack spray, netting, and pollination during busy seasons.
• Track and enter data for regulatory activities.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (or willingness/ability to obtain GED within 12 months of hiring).
• 2 to 4 years of tropical agriculture experience in IPM spray and farm equipment operation preferred.
• Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to read/interpret instructions and work independently.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Tolerance for working in an outdoor tropical agriculture setting.
• Ability to work in a team setting with diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to tow trailers (CMV).
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during seasonal peaks.
• Occasionally required to lift 20 to 40 lbs.
• Experience with operating and assisting in drone operation is preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $63,420.00 to $70,470.00. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus.
