Responsibilities

  • Organizes daily workload, assignments, and scheduling of incoming calibrations request.
  • Affirms that inventory of supplies needed for quality lab performance are on hand.
  • Determines if artifacts meet standards and conditions for testing.
  • Primarily responsible for:
    • Performing all calibrations, adjusts and seals weights to ensure that the weights meet NIST standards.
    • Performing all calibrations and adjusts and seals volume test measures (provers only) to meet NIST standards.
    • Maintaining the entire laboratory logbook of artifacts received and notes date, time and signature of the person to whom the artifacts are released.
    • Completing NIST courses that give Incumbent the right to sign metrology reports for the department in the eyes of NIST.
    • Maintains laboratory testing equipment, balances and standards to assure they meet performance standards.
    • Follows accepted NIST Standard Operating Procedures in testing and reporting of results.
    • Confers with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and National Conference of Weights and Measures on required training and participation in training webinars and attends mandatory yearly seminars.
    • Communicates with field personnel and industry regarding scheduling of laboratory work including preparing appointment notices, telephone appointments and posting of weekly schedule.

Requirements

  • Three years of general laboratory or laboratory research and analysis experience; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

  • Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • Substitution For Seed Laboratory Only: The possession of a certification in seed germination/purity by the Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA) or Society of Commercial Seed Technologists (SCST) will substitute for the required college training.
