Responsibilities
- Drive and control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil; planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops.
- Operate mechanized and power-driven equipment such as tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators, and other equipment to plant, cultivate, harvest, and irrigate crops.
- Install and maintain irrigation systems and water lines.
- Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment, remove drip tubing or install drip tubing, dig and maintain ditches.
- Transport H-2A workers to and from fields, housing, or other designated locations.
- Ensure workers arrive on time and in a safe manner.
- Maintain vehicles in good working condition (e.g., routine checks, refueling, cleaning).
- Comply with all state and federal traffic laws, as well as H-2A program requirements.
- Perform a variety of duties related to the production of herbs and vegetables, including manual planting, cultivating, and harvesting.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives.
- Till soil and apply fertilizers, transplant, weed, thin, prune crops, apply pesticides, clean, grade, sort, pack, and load harvested products.
- Auxiliary duties may include repairing fences, covering hoop houses, installing and maintaining irrigation systems, and packing crops.
Requirements
- 3 months experience operating farm equipment.
- Experience working in herbs and leafy greens.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors.
- Unusual, complex, or non-routine activities will be supervised.
- Field workers will be expected to perform their general duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision.
- Ability to recognize, understand, and comply with safety, pesticide warning/re-entry, and other essential postings.
