About the role

The OII staff facilitate positive institutional and staff collaborations with industry while mitigating the risk of biasing MGB’s charitable missions of providing the best patient care, educating the next generation of health care providers, and conducting cutting‑edge biomedical research.

The Agreement Associate primarily handles work in two OII program areas: reviewing individual and institutional interests in connection with MGB research activities, and negotiating educational grants from industry for the support of MGB educational programs including fellowship and other educational programs. This position reports to the Manager of Educational Grants in the Office for Interactions with Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Working with MGB education Program Directors and industry representatives to ensure all grants are compliant with internal and external policies and legal requirements — collecting and reviewing required documentation, ensuring appropriate workflow systems are in place, tracking and documenting all activity, ensuring courses have been appropriately reviewed and approved, reviewing policy matters with the MGB faculty Education Review Board, and coordinating as appropriate with hospital development offices, Research Management, and other institutional offices.
  • Reviewing the institutional and personal financial interests of MGB researchers engaged in government or private‑funded research projects and determining whether, pursuant to applicable policies and regulations, a conflict of interest exists between the financial interest and the research project; when necessary, implementing and monitoring compliance with management plans for such conflicts.
  • Communicating with MGB researchers on case‑related matters and triaging questions appropriately.
  • Facilitating constructive interactions with industry by enabling researchers and institutional officials to understand the impact of their personal financial interests on their MGB research and other institutional responsibilities.
  • Acquiring and maintaining an in‑depth understanding of policies and regulations that govern the work in the two program areas.
  • Assisting with training other team members as applicable.
  • Drafting educational materials and other communications regarding Mass General Brigham policies and procedures for consulting, outside activities, and industry gifts, and educating hospital departments on policy requirements.
  • Performing such other tasks relating to interactions with industry as determined by the Director or Manager of Educational Grants of OII.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; legal background or J.D. strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience working in contract administration, review, or adjacent work.
  • A degree or work experience in a scientific field is a plus.
  • Experience working with physicians and administrators in large, complex not‑for‑profit institutions preferred.

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills to apply legal, regulatory, and policy requirements across diverse research and business scenarios, and the ability to effectively summarize findings both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to review and interpret complex contract language and identify potential risks or discrepancies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, understand nuances, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and ethical behavior in handling sensitive contractual and financial information.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and the ability to learn new software applications.
