Casella Construction is seeking an Aggregate Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Aggregate Team in North Clarendon, VT. This role plays a critical role in quarry operations, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and supporting team members through training and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and troubleshoot advanced quarry equipment, including crushers, excavators, and loaders
  • Execute planned maintenance and production operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Provide training and mentorship to entry-level and mid-career team members to support their professional growth and skill development
  • Inspect and maintain quarry infrastructure, identifying potential hazards or inefficiencies
  • Work closely with management to track production goals and suggest process improvements
  • Enforce workplace safety standards, ensuring compliance with MSHA and environmental regulations
  • Assist with quarry shutdown operations, including seasonal maintenance and equipment repairs
  • Communicate effectively with the Aggregate team
  • Complete training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair and maintain quarry equipment, including crushers, conveyors, and other heavy machinery, ensuring operational efficiency and safety compliance

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mining, quarrying, or heavy industrial operations
  • Experience in welding and fabricating heavy machinery and equipment, preferably in a quarry or similar industrial environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications preferred
  • Heavy equipment operations certification (or willing to obtain)
  • Deep understanding of quarry safety protocols, including MSHA and OSHA standards
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and make real-time operational decisions
  • Experience in winter maintenance and site preparation for seasonal shutdowns

Physical Requirements

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
  • Must be able to safely climb and dismount a ladder
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb inclines for the duration of the shift
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Schedule

Full-time position, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with rotating Saturday shifts. The quarry crush stone operation shuts down January through February for maintenance, training, and regulatory requirements.

Pay

Hourly hiring range: $20.00/hr. - $25.00/hr. This range reflects the base pay we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting, considering current market conditions and industry benchmarks. Final and individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
