About the role

Seeking a motivated and curious Agentic AI Researcher to join the Advanced Learning and Analytics team within the AI Discipline at RTX Research Center. The team researches and develops machine learning, computer vision, reinforcement learning, LLM applications, and human-computer interaction solutions for aerospace, manufacturing, and defense challenges such as autonomous flight, material discovery, automated visual inspection, robotic perception, and prognostics and health management. This role focuses on creating grounded, explainable, and verifiable AI systems for high-stakes environments including autonomous systems, command and control, decision support, and safety-critical domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build next-generation agentic AI systems combining machine learning (LLMs, RL, deep learning) with symbolic reasoning, knowledge graphs, and formal methods.
  • Research, design, and implement novel ML approaches for multi-modal data.
  • Develop algorithms, publish findings, and present to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate, lead, and develop capabilities by pursuing funding opportunities through internal and external R&D.

Qualifications you must have

  • A university degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience; or an advanced degree in a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with various ML techniques, off-the-shelf packages, and development environments.
  • Experience building ML, LLMs, and agentic systems, with deep understanding of frameworks like PyTorch, LangGraph, and AutoGen.
  • Ability to translate engineering problem statements into ML problems and identify candidate approaches.
  • Research experience synthesizing and combining multiple ML approaches to address novel engineering problems.

Qualifications we prefer

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional ML experience, including 2+ years developing agentic solutions.
  • 5+ years applying and adapting ML approaches from academic literature to real-world problems.
  • Experience fine-tuning LLMs to enhance reasoning capabilities.
  • Prior experience in aerospace and defense applications.
  • Published work in flagship conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers factors including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when extending an offer.
