Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assisting with the examination and review of license applications, renewals, and related submitted documentation to determine compliance with statutes, rules, and regulations
- Reviewing and interpreting criminal justice information to determine compliance
- Handling an average of 20 incoming phone calls per day, each lasting a few minutes, to answer questions, provide information, and assist agents and consumers with basic inquiries
- Responding to inquiries from insurance license applicants, agents, and the public both over the phone and in writing
- Supporting the education of insurance agents on Virginia insurance laws and regulations
- Supporting the research of complaints and inquiries from the public
- Maintaining licensing records and records of submission
- Collaborating with other agencies in the review of licensing applications and renewals
- Preparing written communications to multiple stakeholders involved in the agent licensing process
- Participating in identifying trends and making recommendations for improvements
- Aiding in documenting processes and procedures
- Performing related work as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in the insurance industry, insurance regulation, licensing, compliance, or a related field
- Knowledge of basic insurance terminology
- Some knowledge of insurance agent operations, practices, and procedures
- Without related professional experience, a bachelor’s degree in a related field is the minimum requirement
- Ability to analyze and interpret relevant Virginia insurance laws and regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to correspond with consumers over the phone in a professional and patient manner
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to analyze data to evaluate outcomes
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff, industry personnel, and the general public
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 programs and other general software applications
