About the role
We are seeking an Ag Marketing Underwriter responsible for driving the acquisition of profitable new business through field underwriting work and collaboration with Farm Bureau Agents. You will work with both prospective and current client-members throughout Central Utah, focusing on agricultural risks.
As an Ag Marketing Underwriter, you will work from home and have control over your territory to grow Ag business. You must reside along the Wasatch Front to cover central Utah from Delta to Vernal and from Salt Lake City to Fillmore.
Responsibilities
- Assess Agricultural risks alongside an agent before the policy is bound.
- Exercise underwriting judgments to determine rate and risk selection for Agricultural lines of business, including modifications, rejections, cancellations, and non-renewal decisions.
- Monitor the current book of business to reduce company losses and conduct reinspections of existing accounts.
- Build rapport with client-members using marketing, agriculture, and insurance experience.
- Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal rules and regulations to ensure government compliance and meet company guidelines.
- Meet deadlines, work under pressure, and shift priorities to achieve corporate and business unit goals.
- Travel during the workday (50%+) for field appointments within your assigned territory, with limited overnight travel.
- Progress toward industry education (AIC, AU, AFIS, CIC, and CPCU).
Requirements
- College degree or equivalent insurance experience required; an agribusiness degree is preferred or equivalent experience working in the operation of large farms/ranches.
- Strong understanding of farm business operations and the pain points of the customers we service.
- Strong customer service skills, including solid verbal communication and business professional writing skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the agency force while maintaining a positive, customer-focused attitude.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills to quickly learn multiple systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (a company vehicle is provided).
