About the Role
We are seeking an experienced technical Sales Engineer or technical salesperson to lead an Aftermarket Sales segment. This role blends technical field knowledge, customer engagement, and solution-based selling for aftermarket parts, upgrades, retrofits, and service offerings.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding aftermarket requirements, including service parts, retrofits, upgrades, field modifications, and replacement components.
- Conduct onsite customer visits, equipment evaluations, and field assessments to identify aftermarket opportunities and potential site-build requirements.
- Evaluate customer needs and equipment conditions to provide practical, technically sound recommendations.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers by understanding their operational needs and providing responsive solutions.
- Apply mechanical and electrical expertise to understand equipment configurations, technical specifications, drawings, diagrams, and actual field conditions.
- Recommend appropriate technical solutions involving equipment layouts, electrical systems, HVAC components, enclosure integrity, system enhancements, and related modifications.
- Partner with Engineering and Applications teams to develop and scope equipment modifications, upgrades, and customized solutions.
- Translate customer requirements and field conditions into clear technical and commercial solutions.
- Support customers during construction, site development, installation, commissioning, and equipment integration activities.
- Identify and help resolve field integration challenges involving MEP coordination, power distribution, equipment fit-up, environmental considerations, and site-specific requirements.
- Participate in field meetings and inspections to ensure aftermarket components and technical solutions are properly aligned with project requirements.
- Manage requests for quotation (RFQs) involving aftermarket parts, engineered modifications, upgrades, and service packages.
- Develop accurate, competitive, and timely quotations based on customer requirements and field conditions.
- Prepare technical clarifications and ensure proposals accurately reflect the required scope, equipment configuration, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to validate pricing, availability, lead times, and technical specifications.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Applications, Service, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to develop and execute customer solutions.
- Coordinate part availability, production requirements, delivery schedules, and field execution activities.
- Communicate customer requirements internally to ensure alignment from quotation through delivery and field implementation.
- Travel approximately 25–35% throughout North America for customer meetings, site evaluations, equipment inspections, project assessments, and field coordination.
- Represent the Company professionally at customer locations and develop a strong understanding of customer operations and project requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, aftermarket sales, field service, engineered products, or capital equipment.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with customers in industrial, construction, installation, or field-service environments.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, field layouts, and equipment documentation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical system integration and the lifecycle requirements of industrial equipment.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, including equipment sizing and application considerations.
- Strong technical problem-solving, consultative selling, and customer relationship management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce, as well as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work effectively in a field-oriented, customer-facing role with frequent travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with equipment enclosure systems, modular buildings, equipment housings, or similar engineered products.
- Familiarity with construction sites, commissioning activities, MEP coordination, installation projects, or field service operations.
- Experience managing and supporting installed equipment bases and aftermarket programs.
- Background in capital equipment sales or other complex, technical sales environments.
- Proven experience developing long-term customer relationships involving complex products, engineered solutions, and extended sales cycles.
Work Environment
Location: Onsite in Itasca, Illinois.
Travel: Approximately 25–35% throughout North America.
Collaboration: Frequent interaction with Engineering, Applications, Service, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams.
Role: Customer-facing, technically focused position combining field engagement, consultative sales, aftermarket development, and cross-functional project coordination.
