About the role

The Safety & Security Officer responds to emergencies, intervenes in interpersonal conflicts, and directs students and staff in crisis situations. Safety & Security Monitors help provide a safe learning environment for students, educators, staff, and guests. They assist with student behavior management and support students requiring additional guidance. Officers supervise students and guests during arrivals, visitings, class transitions, lunch, in-school/after-school activities, and monitor all three buildings and parking lots.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all arrivals, dismissal, parking lots, class transitions, lunch, in-school/after-school activities, and special events
  • Ensure all areas are clear and all students are in class
  • Report suspicious behaviors and incidences
  • Assist with student early dismissals
  • Retrieve and guide students and guests to their destination
  • Enforce the school’s hallway and bathroom pass policies
  • Monitor during all check-in and check-out processes
  • Assist with conflict resolution and de-escalating conflicts
  • Respond to and report all inappropriate and/or suspicious behavior to their supervisor
  • Assist with school safety drills such as fire drills, lockdowns, tornado drills, and bus evacuation drills
  • Ensure that Instituto property is not damaged and is taken care of properly
  • Ensure the safety of all individuals
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with adolescents is highly desired
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Maintain a high sense of confidentiality
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Excellent “customer” service attitude
  • Willingness to learn and grow

Physical Demands

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile, and prepare work documents, set-up, and maintain work files. Approximately 50% of time spent standing, some lifting (under 20 lbs.).

Working Conditions

Majority of work is distributed throughout the organization’s locations and is not limited to one specific area. Light travel within walking distance (less than 2 square blocks to and from all locations). Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
