After School Teacher

About the role

Teach elementary school children (ages 5‑11) to play chess after school in a small‑group setting. Silver Knights Chess Academy provides a curriculum and thorough, paid training on how to help children learn chess.

Pay

Starting at $55 per hour for the long club.

Schedule

Part‑time after‑school hours beginning in the fall. You must be available at least three weekdays during the school year between 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm. Total time commitment is longer due to setup and cleanup.

Sample day:

• 2:45 pm – Arrive at school, check in, set up
• 3:00 pm – Kids arrive, teach lesson
• 3:20 pm – Kids play practice games
• 4:00 pm – Clean up, parent pickup

Responsibilities

• Manage a classroom of 10‑20 students.
• Use the provided curriculum to demonstrate and communicate basic chess rules (piece movement, castling, check, checkmate, etc.) and strategy.
• Promote good sportsmanship among students.
• Responsibly store and maintain all teaching equipment and materials.
• Supervise parent pickup.

Qualifications

• Interest and enthusiasm for chess (master‑level skill not required).
• Experience as a camp counselor, tutor, teacher, coach, after‑school instructor, or in preschool/daycare is a plus.
• Comfortable driving with a reliable vehicle.
• Flexible schedule (e.g., Uber/Lyft driver, student, or retired person seeking part‑time work).
• Ability to lift 25 lb of teaching equipment.
• Ability to learn and use new software tools.
