Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead youth through various program activities, adhering to schedules and instructions.
- Activities may include gym/field games, arts and crafts, academic support, field trips, and other experiences that promote the development of students.
- Work with a team to prepare activities before students arrive.
- Actively supervise students during activities, prioritizing safety at all times.
- Use engagement strategies to make activities fun and interactive for all students.
- Consistently model positive habits for students.
- Set clear behavior expectations aligned with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Maintain clean and orderly program spaces.
- Use technology such as smart TVs, iPads, Bluetooth speakers, and walkie-talkies to help with program operations.
- Build supportive professional relationships with students, families, program staff, volunteers, and external partners.
- Attend scheduled meetings, community events, professional development sessions, and trainings.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Job Qualifications
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Reliable transportation and ability to maintain consistent attendance.
- Successful background check and drug screening.
- Ability to interact with people from different backgrounds with empathy and cultural awareness.
- Strong organizational skills (planning, prioritizing tasks, managing time).
- Strong communication skills (speaking, listening, writing, reading comprehension).
- Prior experience working with youth preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Staff Must Be Able To regularly move about program spaces for several hours daily with ample energy.
- Physically assist students during activities, which may require: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or reaching, moving, lifting, and/or handling objects, using basic tools and/or office supplies.
- Efficiently communicate with students and staff during fast-paced activities.
- Visually monitor groups of students during fast-paced activities.
- Quickly identify and react to environmental sounds.
- Perform job duties in indoor and outdoor settings, occasionally during poor weather.
Schedule and Seasonal Hours
- After-school program staff typically work 15–25 hours per week, with schedules varying seasonally based on program needs.
- School Year (August–May): During the after-school program, hours are typically 2:00PM-7:00PM, Monday through Friday; coordinating with Omaha Public Schools calendar.
- Summer (June–July): During summer programming, hours are typically one of the following options: 8:30AM -12:30PM, Monday through Thursday11:30AM - 3:30PM, Monday through Thursday8:30AM - 3:30PM, Monday through Thursday Schedules may vary due to holidays, school breaks, parent-teacher conferences, training requirements, or other special circumstances.
