Description

The After School Instructor will work directly with a group of students, providing homework assistance, academic support and enrichment activities on site at one of our Stockton school locations. The ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and patience is essential to success. Must be committed to working throughout the entire school year.

About the Role

Reports to: Extended Learning Opportunity Program Director.

Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years work experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Education/Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent AA degree or BA degree (minimum of 48 units), or pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score = 460), or pass the CBEST Exams.
  • Knowledge/Skills Required: Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to deal effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds, including discipline problems. Demonstrated ability working with young people, parents, and community leaders. Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Implement after school activities within assigned core program areas, including academic assistance, homework club, fitness/recreation, arts, and enrichment activities.
  • Accurately track student attendance (sign-in/sign-out sheets) on a daily basis.
  • Aid in after school program registration, customer service, and community outreach.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety to ensure the safety of students, staff members, and others.
  • Participate in all after school activities including preparation, set-up, take-down, and clean-up to ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.

Physical

  • Ability to navigate school and classroom settings.
  • Ability to access and utilize technology.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-35 lbs.
  • Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include frequent kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.

Mental

  • Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental

  • School and in-person classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.

Compensation

We are dedicated to you and your family's well-being! KIPP offers a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits. 10 month Standard Compensation (20 hours/week) - $20.00 - $23.75/hour based on experience. Depending on school need and availability, this role could include an optional 6-week Summer Extension (20-40 hours/week). Compensation for this period would be $30.00/hour.
