After School Program Assistant Director (Spring Valley Corps) (Part-Time 25 hrs/wk)

About the Role

The After School Program Assistant Director (ASPAD) supports the Afterschool Program Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for students and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. This position ensures a high level of execution in state licensing requirements and serves as the program lead in the absence of the After School Program Director.

The individual in this role must maintain confidentiality, exhibit loyalty, and uphold the trust of fellow staff and The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

• Serve as After School Program Director in their absence, including supervising program staff, participants, volunteers, schedules, activities, snack distribution, daily student attendance, and other assigned responsibilities.
• Enforce state licensing requirements, such as maintaining student/teacher ratios, supervising children, and completing reports.
• Enforce Keep Safe policies, including filing incident reports using organizational systems.
• Support the After School Program Director in assigned tasks.
• Supervise and engage with children during program times.
• Develop and implement school-age program activities and curriculum.
• Establish a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for all students.
• Actively participate in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
• Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
• Ensure smooth daily transitions for children.
• Follow all program policies and state regulations.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Utilize classroom assessment and evaluation tools related to child development and curriculum.
• Communicate accidents, sicknesses, and incidents to the Program Director promptly.
• Complete and maintain professional development for continuous quality improvement.
• Maintain accurate record-keeping using digital and paper filing systems.
• Follow all Salvation Army KeepSAfe policies.
• Respond professionally and promptly to emails and requests.
• Communicate courteously with students, staff, parents, and volunteers.
• Attend assigned staff meetings and trainings and actively contribute.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Understanding and appreciation of The Salvation Army’s mission.
• Experience working with school-aged children (classroom teaching experience preferred).
• High energy and ability to work well in a team environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of child development.
• Multilingual (English/Spanish/French strongly preferred).
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Infant/child and Adult CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
• Must clear a full background check.
• Must provide health screening, including a physical and TB test, within the first 90 days.
• Willingness to support and/or lead faith-based children’s activities and programming.
