Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements program in accordance with YMCA goals and policies.
  • Covers for staff and fills-in during temporary absences.
  • Maintains an orderly environment and ensures the health and safety of children.
  • Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families.
  • Coordinates activities to meet the developmental needs of children.
  • Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children.
  • Assists in recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Current state-approved first-aid certification.
  • Current state-approved community CPR certification.
  • TB test by the Manitou method.
  • Immunization records that include, DTAP, MMR, FIV shot or waiver and TB.
  • 12 credits in elementary education or equivalent in courses such as recreation, physical education, education, music, art, psychology, or social services.
  • One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children the same age as those to be supervised.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
