After School Extended Care Aide

About the role

The After School Extended Care Aide supports the safe, organized, and nurturing supervision of students enrolled in the Extended Care Program. This role blends child supervision, activity support, and routine management to ensure students experience a positive, structured, and faith-filled environment after the regular school day. Because all St. John the Baptist Catholic School employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during after-school play, homework time, and structured activities
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all children
• Provide gentle guidance, positive reinforcement, and support for social-emotional development
• Assist with daily routines, including check-in, snack distribution, and dismissal
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and families
• Uphold school policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality standards
• Prepare and organize materials for activities as needed
• Monitor indoor and outdoor play to ensure student safety
• Support cleanliness and organization of the Extended Care space
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting preferred
• Ability to follow direction and collaborate as part of a team
• Warm, patient, and child-centered approach
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to supervise and manage groups of children safely
• Basic computer literacy (email, simple school platforms)
• Completion of required background checks and clearances
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move frequently throughout the day
• Ability to supervise active children indoors and outdoors

Pay

$20.00 – $20.79/hr.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, aligned with the school calendar; afternoon/early evening hours
