About the role
The EDEP Assistant supports the After-School Enrichment Program at Broadus Wood Elementary during the 2026-27 school year. This part-time position runs 4 hours per day for 10 months.
Responsibilities
- Assists the teacher with daily tasks
- Instructs students in preplanned activities as required
- Assists with any activity and special event as needed
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with ASEP staff and school staff
- Exhibits positive public relations
- Upholds school rules, policies, and procedures
- Prepares and distributes snacks as needed
- Maintains a safe work environment
- Establishes and maintains high standards of behavior
- Attends required and assigned training sessions
- Participates in EDEP programs as assigned
- Maintains a safe work environment
- Exhibits dependable work habits
- Performs related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students
- Willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques employed with disabled students
- Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Willingness to seek and maintain CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students
- Willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques employed with disabled students
- Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff
Education and Experience
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including basic keyboard and filing training
- Training in Basic First Aid
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work
- Contacts: Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required
- Occasional travel with students on field trips
- Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required
- Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required
- Daily personal and close contact with children and ASEP staff members required to provide an effective learning environment
