About the role

iCook/iSTEAM After School is an innovative educational company that provides a fun, hands-on after-school cooking and nutrition education program for children in grades K-4. The program enriches children's lives by teaching them to love cooking, eating delicious and healthful dishes, and learning about different cultures and the stories behind food. The iSTEAM program focuses on hands-on and observable experiments, covering basics of Engineering and Tech, Chemistry, Science through Art, and more.

We are looking for passionate individuals who share our enthusiasm for education, food, and making a difference in children's lives. This part-time role offers a flexible schedule with classes near you, ideal for educators, nutritionists, stay-at-home parents, students, chefs, and others from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead after-school cooking or STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4), exciting them about fun and creative recipes or experiments, new foods, and different cuisines and cultures.
  • Teach provided lesson plans on nutrition and healthy eating in a fun, engaging way.
  • Introduce kids to basic cutting and measuring techniques, food safety, table manners, and other curriculum concepts.
  • Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes (reimbursed separately).

Requirements

  • Experience working with large groups of kids (e.g., in school settings, summer camps).
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Energetic personality with the ability to keep students engaged.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom during instruction.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel for setup, instruction, and cleanup.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to load and unload supplies from a vehicle, if applicable.
  • Ability to travel to assigned program locations.

Schedule

  • Classes run in the afternoons between 2-4 PM, typically for one hour.
  • Classes are held once per day, Monday through Friday, with a maximum of 5 classes per week (one per day).
  • Schedules depend on start date, onboarding completion, and class availability in your area.
  • Primarily looking for instructors for classes in Skokie, IL, and surrounding North Chicago suburbs.

Pay

$60-$70 per class (1-hour class time). This rate accounts for approximately two hours of total work, including preparation and cleanup.
