After School Childcare Worker (Part-Time)

Reports to After School Child Care Site Supervisor. Terms of employment: 190 days.

About the Role

Provide continuous supervision and interaction with children and plan and participate in daily activities for small groups.

Responsibilities

• Arrive promptly and remain for the specified time.
• Supervise children constantly, never leaving them unattended.
• Assist children with hygiene needs when necessary.
• Assist children with assignments and activities.
• Assist the site supervisor with providing all daily services and reports.
• Coordinate planned activities as determined by the site supervisor.
• Provide assistance in distributing snacks, supplies, etc.
• Refer serious discipline problems to the site supervisor.
• Attend all staff meetings and training sessions related to the afterschool program.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the site supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and parents.
• Knowledge of the physical, mental, and emotional development of young children.
• Certification in Red Cross first aid and CPR/AED.
• Positive attitude toward working with young children.

Physical Requirements

• Physically capable of lifting 40 lbs.
• Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students and to participate in activities.
• Able to be active for an extended period of time.
• Able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
• Stand, walk, bend, run, and stoop while performing duties.

Work Environment

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. May also be conducted in work-related community settings or occasionally on study trips away from the school.
