African Safari Wildlife Park is seeking seasonal staff for the 2026 season in Port Clinton, Ohio. All positions require excellent communication skills, the ability to pass pre-employment screening, and the ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for several hours. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. All employees are expected to cross-train in multiple positions.
Responsibilities
- Greet guests with a smile and offer assistance in person or over the phone.
- Accept and scan tickets, process admissions using POS system, handle coupons and payments, and distribute receipts.
- Handle cash or card transactions, provide merchandise, and communicate appreciation for guest business.
- Follow asset protection policies and requirements.
- Prepare and distribute feed cups, enforce safety rules for guests and staff, monitor vehicles in the Drive Thru, and keep stations clean.
- Complete checklists associated with cashier positions and maintain cleanliness in assigned areas, including stocking merchandise and concessions.
- Work as a team player to help others complete objectives.
- Follow zoo sanitation standards and handle guest sales promptly and courteously using suggestive selling techniques.
- Use radio to communicate with management, supervisors, or rangers regarding questions or concerns.
Safari Café - Food Service and Ice Cream
- Prepare food products according to prescribed recipes, learn menu items, portions, and prices.
- Maintain cleanliness in kitchen equipment, food prep areas, and guest areas (tables, chairs, serving lines, condiment stands).
- Perform heavy lifting (approx. 40-50 lbs).
- Demonstrate honesty, reliability, and accurate cash handling.
- Use suggestive selling techniques and follow instructions, working individually or in groups during rush times.
- Maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance at all times.
- Follow ServSafe guidelines for food safety.
Animal Experience Attendant (Zoo It All Station, Aviary Attendant, Tortoise Attendant)
- Rotate through all operation positions.
- Perform daily cleaning, operation, and guest assistance at animal experiences.
- Offer facts and answer guest questions about animals.
- Monitor safety of guests and animals during experiences.
- Handle cash or card transactions on the spot.
- Portion lettuce for feedings, distribute budgie sticks, and sell additional merchandise.
- Maintain clean and presentable service areas.
- Assist children and adults onto a camel.
- Use radio to communicate with wildlife staff or supervisors regarding animal or guest concerns.
Groundskeeper
- Perform manual labor related to maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Maintain cleanliness of public and behind-the-scenes areas, including mowing, weed eating, power washing, trash removal, window washing, and restroom cleaning.
Maintenance / Landscaping / Building & Grounds
- Perform manual labor related to repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Landscaping and repair or modification of existing exhibits, including construction of new exhibits as instructed by management.
Requirements
- Must be at least 14 years old with a valid work permit (some positions require individuals to be 18+ with a valid driver’s license).
- Must have a valid Driver’s License, State ID, or School ID.
- Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to follow instructions.
- Must be patient, alert, efficient, and courteous at all times.
- Must have a cheerful, courteous manner with a natural smile and be mature, level-headed.
- Must not be easily flustered by large crowds.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and speak English.
- Experience on a register is helpful but not required.
- Must be comfortable working alone in a cashier booth and using a radio to communicate with management and coworkers.
Groundskeeper & Maintenance Positions
- Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting and working under adverse conditions (weather, heights).
- For maintenance roles: Basic knowledge of construction principles and practices, preferably with a background in carpentry, masonry, and/or welding.
Qualifications
- Ability to work well with money and maintain a professional appearance.
- Comfortable standing and walking alongside vehicles in the Drive Thru.
- For animal experience roles: Comfortable physically assisting guests and handling animals.
