Applications are open for the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Internship 2026. Afreximbank Group recognises that as part of its mandate to promote and finance trade in Africa, it aims to facilitate a broader understanding of African trade and trade finance, particularly structured trade finance, which is its operating model. By offering internships, the Group expects students to gain knowledge of its mandate and operations, which they can apply in their careers, while contributing fresh ideas to the Bank.

About the role

The Internship is open to students who are nationals of the Bank’s member countries (listed on the Bank’s website), students of African descent in the diaspora, and non-African students whose vision for Africa’s transformation aligns with Afreximbank’s mission. The programme is merit-based and attracts highly qualified candidates.

Eligibility

  • Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in a recognised institution during the internship year, preferably in fields such as economics, business administration, finance, accounting, social sciences, statistics, law, sciences, engineering, or related disciplines;
  • Nationals of Afreximbank member states, students of African descent in the diaspora, or non-African students with a vision for Africa’s transformation aligned with the Bank’s mission;
  • Fluency in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an advantage;
  • Candidates must be aged between 20 and 32 in the year of application;
  • Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible.

Benefits

  • Coverage of reasonable return transport costs to the internship location using the most economical and direct routing from the institution of learning;
  • A monthly tax-free stipend of USD $1,000 and a housing allowance of USD $500 for interns relocating from their home countries;
  • Accommodation in a Bank-chosen hotel (bed and breakfast only) for one week during the induction period;
  • Airport transfers on arrival and departure;
  • Relevant residence visa for the duration of the internship, if required.

Interns are responsible for their own upkeep, including meals, transport, clothing, medical, and group personal accident insurance.

  • Letter of application;
  • Copy of current CV;
  • Copy of valid passport;
  • Certified copies of relevant academic certificates;
  • Recommendation for internship from the institution of learning, including the proposed internship period (up to six months);
  • Short Statement of Intent (maximum one A4 page) outlining what the applicant expects to gain from the internship.
