Afar Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring an Afar Interpreter to work remotely from home. This is an independent contractor position and not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities

• Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Render accurate interpretations of conversations between Afar and English speakers.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and enunciation.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm during emergencies.
• Adapt to various industries and handle sensitive topics like end of life conversations.
• Follow client instructions and adhere to protocol.
• Provide cultural competency and address regional accent differences.
• Work flexible hours to fit the needs of the interpreting sessions.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Afar and English with cultural understanding.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive calls.
• Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write Afar and English.

Pay

$0.75 - $0.90 per minute.

Schedule

This is a remote position where the interpreter works from their home office.

Skills

Fluency in Afar and English, cultural competency, excellent listening and note-taking skills, ability to remain neutral and objective, and proficiency in relevant industries.

$0.75 - $0.90 per minute.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse.
• Must be able to operate company-provided software and systems.
• Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
• Must be able to lift up to 26 lbs.
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
• Desktop/Laptop Computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS.
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android).
• Smartphones (iOS or Android).
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
• High-speed Internet connection with download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, and Jitter value of no more than 30 ms.
• Quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
