Aerospace Flight Software Engineer
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Engineer to design, develop, and enhance UAV autopilot software for groundbreaking projects that directly support our mission to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.
About the role
This position independently determines approaches and solutions for the design, development, and modification of embedded software. You will collaborate with domain experts, users, and management throughout the entire software development lifecycle, including planning, compliance, integration, documentation, testing, maintenance, and updates.
Responsibilities
- Determine user requirements and specifications, and plan software development for end-user, system-level, and data management applications.
- Formulate detailed plans for software implementation, including language, platform, and resource requirements.
- Implement design through coding, testing, and documentation.
- Deploy applications across the enterprise, ensuring cross-platform compliance and resource availability.
- Maintain code through debugging and updates to adapt to evolving environments.
- Assist in planning future applications based on advancements in computer technology.
- Communicate with software developers, users, management, and the wider community through technical papers and presentations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned while observing all applicable laws, regulations, and safety practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Four or more years of software development experience with a bachelor’s degree, or two or more years with a master’s degree.
- Degree in computer engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering is highly preferred.
- Complete understanding of software development concepts, principles, and theory, with strong programming and analysis skills.
- Ability to quickly understand and apply new concepts in an evolving environment.
- Experience with C and Python programming languages.
- Experience with closed-loop control systems, Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC), and implementation in C/C++.
- Experience with Model-Based Design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or SCADE is highly desired.
- Experience with DO-178 processes and high-level rigor development.
- Familiarity with aviation systems, fixed-wing aircraft, and VectorCAST.
- Ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases to solve complex problems, both independently and with assistance.
- Strong communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, lead teams, and work extended hours as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance (current active clearance is highly desired).
Pay
Salary range: $98,100 – $171,398
