Position Summary
The Aerospace Engineer ensures aircraft, spacecraft, or missile systems remain airworthy, safe, and operational when original parts are no longer manufactured. The engineer evaluates component lifecycles, designs and tests modifications, and integrates alternative hardware into existing platforms.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to improve performance and sustainability of AF and joint service weapon systems.
- Analyze facts, draw conclusions, and devise solutions for executive use.
- Translate user requirements into system requirements for design, development, and evaluation.
- Support the development of requirements and policies for manufacturing, operations, and disposal of weapon system capabilities.
- Perform technical analyses and trade-off assessments of proposed designs and modifications.
- Provide rapid response engineering support and develop corrective actions for critical supportability issues.
- Conduct materiel solution analyses and participate in design reviews.
- Create and review technical evaluations, plans, studies, reports, and analyses.
- Support project meetings, working groups, and reviews.
- Identify and recommend solutions for equipment and software deficiencies.
- Develop, integrate, and test equipment and software deficiency solutions.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures.
- Attend work regularly and perform occasional travel as required.
- Work flexible hours and occasionally overtime.
- Prepare and submit status reports and other required information.
- Comply with visitor group security agreement and complete required training.
Education & Experience Requirements
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Must obtain and maintain a government security clearance at the required level.
Skill & Certification Requirements
- Understanding of national, DoD, and U.S. Air Force statutory and regulatory policies, directives, and procedures.
- Knowledge of engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures of AF and joint service weapon systems.
- Mastery of MIL-HDBK-516B, Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems.
- Effective oral and written communication skills for program changes, presentations, and team collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to transport self to various facility sites and use own motor vehicle if applicable.
