Aerial Lineman

About the Role
FiberTel is seeking an Aerial Lineman for our San Jose, CA location. The successful candidate will have knowledge of established aerial cable installation procedures, including pole and anchor placement, familiarity with tools and equipment, and the ability to read prints/maps and follow safety rules. Services include placing poles, anchors, aerial strand and cable, underground conduit systems, inside wiring, and testing and maintenance.
Pay
$35–45/hour, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair aerial telecommunications cable.
- Safely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, and climbing hooks.
- Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and excavators.
- Set up safety perimeters using signage, cones, and barriers.
- Flag traffic when required.
- Understand and adhere to separation and clearance regulations.
- Safely work aloft using climbing hooks and ladders.
- Work flexibly across multiple locations.
Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain one.
- Good driving record required.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate utility trucks and equipment safely.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools safely.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (higher wage scales apply).
- Effective communication with customers and employees.
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed, with or without assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous construction experience, preferably in telecommunications.
- Able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction (e.g., pole transfers, maintenance builds, new builds, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction).
- Ability to travel.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week in an outdoor environment. Exposure to extreme weather (cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, high wind), varying terrain, traffic, urban and rural settings, and occasional risks such as natural gas or electrical shock. Moderate to loud noise levels may occur.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods (up to 12 hours).
- Tolerate extreme weather conditions.
- Withstand prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling.
- Regularly lift 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
