About the role
The Automotive Equipment Operator I - Parks position involves operating various types of single-axle trucks and related equipment over 26,000 GVW, performing construction and maintenance tasks, and establishing grades and setting concrete forms.
Responsibilities
- Operates single-axle trucks and related equipment over 26,000 GVW, including front end loaders and flatbeds.
- Performs construction, general upkeep, and maintenance activities such as snow removal, mowing, lining, grading, spraying of chemicals, concrete work, placing grave markers, opening and closing graves, and other activities related to assigned equipment operation.
- Paints curbs, crosswalks, posts, and street lines; sets up barricades and directs traffic as needed.
- Establishes grades and sets concrete forms, pours and finishes concrete; seals cracks in concrete, performs street and curb cuts, and asphalt repairs.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment and tools.
- Operates power, hand, and electrical tools and equipment.
- Completes and maintains records, including work orders, chemical usage reports, maintenance reports, and grave location records.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Valid drivers' license at the time of hire and Commercial Drivers' License within 6 months from the date of hire.
- May be required to obtain a Pesticide Applicators’ License for weed control work.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skill in the operation, maintenance, and use of trucks and related small construction equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operations of trucks and other single axle automotive equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations and ability to learn and maintain a good working knowledge of the geography of the City.
- Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual labor and operate automotive equipment for long hours under varying and sometimes adverse conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
Skills
- Basic computer operation skills for checking e-mail, reviewing time sheets, printing documents, etc.
