About the role

Seeking an experienced Advisor Network Engineer to serve as one of our principal technical leads and subject matter experts for our Enterprise Network Team, specializing in Cisco Datacenter technologies, ACI, SDA LAN, and automation. This role provides planning, design, acquisition, and implementation support for the company’s network and voice services, evaluates business requirements to develop and implement effective solutions, and conducts project planning, cost analysis, vendor comparisons, and traffic studies to determine optimal system configurations.

Manages data center network infrastructure and related hardware and software throughout their lifecycle to ensure availability, recoverability, performance, and security vulnerability mitigation. Provides production support and maintenance for existing networks while developing and implementing enhancements that improve network capability and reliability.

This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Cisco ACI solutions with spine-leaf architecture.
  • Manage Cisco Nexus switching platforms and software-defined networking.
  • Develop automation workflows using APIs, Python, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Implement zero-touch provisioning across technology portfolio.
  • Support, monitor, troubleshoot, configure, and enhance the existing network while providing advanced customer support.
  • Design high-density wireless solutions for diverse environments (offices, generation facilities, and outdoor environments).
  • Implement and manage a network security solution using Security Group Tag (SGT) for access control in both wired and wireless infrastructure.
  • Automate network deployments using Cisco Catalyst Center and other tools.
  • Work outside immediate discipline to coordinate troubleshooting of wide-scale problems; serve as point-of-contact across several areas or disciplines to resolve major network outages with high impact or visibility.
  • Provide the highest level of troubleshooting for unique problems unanswered at lower levels; serve as the highest-level technical resource for networking and VoIP technology.
  • Lead resource for dealing with highly complex technical and/or business issues.
  • Apply advanced knowledge in a primary team and general knowledge in multiple relevant teams to create solutions for highly complex business situations.
  • Design and lead implementation of hardware, software, and environment standards based on business strategy and architecture.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and select appropriate hardware and software for network infrastructure.
  • Recommend network integration required to support business application needs.
  • Perform lead role in reviewing vendor proposals and making recommendations.
  • Design and implement network architectures, including WLANs, LANs, LAN-to-LAN communications, VoIP, and connections with the WAN environment.
  • Design and document network infrastructure; configure, install, and troubleshoot routers and switches; collaborate with management, clients, internal teams, and vendors to identify cost-effective solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems; alert management, NOC, and other IT groups when sensitive issues arise or major problems are suspected.
  • Develop and follow procedures for LAN/WAN/VoIP administration (e.g., security, reliability).
  • Configure, install, and maintain necessary hardware and software for LAN/WAN/VoIP to provide a suitable environment for production applications and development.
  • Perform maintenance and release upgrades on a timely basis or as needed; monitor performance and availability of LAN/WAN platforms.
  • Uphold safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures; promote and support a culture of total safety.

Requirements

  • Two (2) year degree or certification in a technology-related field or equivalent combination of education, work experience, or relevant military experience.
  • At least six (6) years of experience in related field.
  • Six (6) years of directly related experience in infrastructure/network environments performing network engineering (hardware and software), network designing, planning, and implementing WLANs, LANs, WANs, and VoIP using latest technology.
  • Thorough knowledge and expertise of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively in teams with personnel of varying skills, backgrounds, and disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of WAN/LAN/VoIP design/configuration/support, network protocols, and router/switch administration.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with IT infrastructure, MPLS, data, voice, Telco, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, routers, switches, domains, DNS, DHCP, and subnets.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco IOS commands, upgrades, and proficiency with specific network routing and bridging protocols (OSPF, BGP, Multicast, QOS, VLANs, VoIP, and IPSEC VPN).
  • Solid knowledge of department-specific applications.
  • Solid technical knowledge and aptitude in networks, network topologies, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to solve network infrastructure issues and manage the performance and capacity of a WLAN/LAN/WAN/VoIP environment.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to and apply rapidly changing technology to business needs.
  • Ability to assess internal and external communication practices, anticipate future network requirements, and research and analyze emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network provider services and understanding of LAN/WAN/VoIP principles.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree (desired).
  • 10+ years enterprise networking experience (desired).
  • 5+ years data center technologies (ACI, Nexus) and network automation (desired).
  • 3+ years Cisco ISE implementation, configuration, and policy management (desired).
  • 2+ years Cisco SD-WAN experience (desired).
  • Experience mentoring team members, sharing technical knowledge, and developing engineering talent (desired).
  • Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git, APIs, and automation frameworks (desired).
  • CCNP / CCIE / CWNE / CWNA or equivalent experience (desired).
  • Advanced network routing & switching knowledge with routing protocols (BGP, VxLAN, OSPF) and overlay technologies (desired).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $118,300.00 - $208,000.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals-based incentive bonuses.
