Advise Manager - Higher Education
About the role
Our Deloitte Strategy & Transactions team helps guide clients through their most critical moments and transformational initiatives. From strategy to execution, this team delivers integrated, end-to-end support and advisory services covering valuation modeling, cost optimization, restructuring, government operations modernization, business design and transformation, infrastructure and real estate, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and sustainability.
Work alongside clients in the higher education sector (primarily universities and public university systems) to help them assess, prioritize, and plan strategies and tactics in an increasingly complex and challenged operating environment. The role combines rigorous research skills, strong quantitative analysis, clear business case development, professional writing, effective stakeholder management, and a sharp point of view on organizational dynamics—applied during a transformative period for the sector.
Responsibilities
- Lead workstreams across strategy, growth, operating model, and transformation engagements from problem definition through implementation planning.
- Manage day-to-day engagement activities, project plans, risks, deliverables, and stakeholder communications across cross-functional teams.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings with client stakeholders to align on priorities, decisions, and next steps.
- Coach junior practitioners, review work product, and maintain quality across deliverables.
The team
Deloitte's Government & Public Services (GPS) practice is designed for impact, serving federal, state, and local government clients as well as public higher education institutions. The Strategy offering helps clients architect bold strategies to achieve business and mission goals, enabling growth, competitive advantage, technology modernization, and continuous digital and AI transformation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in a higher education setting, either in consulting or in strategic, operational, and/or managerial roles within a higher education institution.
- 3+ years of experience leading project teams or workstreams.
- Ability to travel 50%, on average, based on client and project needs.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Preferred skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, hit deadlines, and deliver client-ready work with limited supervision.
- Proficiency with standard analytical and productivity tools (Excel, PowerPoint); hands-on experience with AI tools, prompting, or data analysis tools is strongly preferred.
- Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces and structuring open-ended questions into analyzable components.
- Demonstrated ability to translate analysis into defensible, realistic, and actionable recommendations to improve client performance.
Pay
The wage range for this role is $110,700–$218,300. The range accounts for factors such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, and compensation decisions depend on individual and organizational performance. You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
