About the Role
This is a part-time, variable-hour position where the selected applicant(s) will maintain a fun, safe, and supervised atmosphere for infants and children through structured and unstructured activities. Responsibilities may also include working in other areas of the Community Center. Must be able to work morning shifts, 8AM – 12:30, at least three (3) days each week, including holidays.
Responsibilities
- Greet, acknowledge, and interact with residents and their children in a friendly and professional manner.
- Engage children in interactive activities that may include storytelling, organized arts & crafts, singing, and games.
- Monitor and interact with children to maintain a safe and healthy environment with respect to toys, sports equipment, other children, and surroundings.
- Clean and maintain the Adventure Club area.
- Supervise children when outside on the playground.
- Articulate extensive knowledge of children’s activities, programs, services, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for children placed in your care.
- Ensure that established policies and procedures are enforced.
- Keep accurate incident reports and report them immediately to the programs manager.
- Attend all staff meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain accurate time card activity.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the programs manager.
Requirements
- Education: A minimum of two (2) years of high school completed or equivalent; previous experience in a related position is helpful.
- Minimum Age: 16 years old.
- Experience: Experience with children in an organized program setting is highly preferred.
- Must have an aptitude for detail, highly effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- CPR & First Aid certifications are helpful but not required.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a personal computer, printer, facsimile machine, phone, and various other routine business equipment.
- Ability to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English to communicate effectively with people of various education levels and capabilities, both in person and over the phone.
- Perform physical activities (possibly for extended periods) that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, including walking, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, lifting, and carrying.
- Ability to exert minimal force of up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds to move objects.
- Ability to transport oneself around the office and community.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays.
- Must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
- Must be able to work effectively with a positive attitude and demeanor in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
- Position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate and outdoors in a variable climate.
- Personal protective equipment (PPEs), including proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire, should be worn for protection as appropriate.
- The employee may be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
Schedule
Morning shifts, 8AM – 12:30, at least three (3) days each week, including holidays.
