Advance Technicians provide world-class support service by completing new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting. This role offers a clear and solid career path with several opportunities to grow and learn.
Responsibilities
- Maintain high-level service by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks, as well as Home Terminal Units.
- Support customers by repairing local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using electronic test equipment.
- Read and interpret system/network design maps.
- Verify as-built documentation; compare field findings with existing documentation and report discrepancies following Company standards.
- Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optic cables, mount active and passive devices (aerial and underground), activate devices, and test equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform surveys to determine if customer-requested locations can receive service; create maps/drawings to estimate costs for plant/drop extensions if needed.
- Perform underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
- Perform construction maintenance duties, including splicing aerial/underground cables, repairing/replacing damaged plant, and inspecting/replacing power supplies.
- Monitor plant for ingress/egress, perform signal leakage ride-out activities, and track/repair signal leakage as necessary.
- Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management.
Requirements
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting the position.
- Working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and related test equipment.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations from regulatory bodies such as FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as local ordinances.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
- Ability to work a variable schedule, respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or on-call as required.
- Availability to work overtime, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
