Job Description Summary

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides consultation on nursing practice and assigned patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with physician to order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Reviews all admission data within designated time frames; determines suitability of level of care.
  • Procures services and advocates for patients, families, and the hospital for scarce resources.
  • Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education on admission as needed.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences.
  • Provides guidance during patient care conferences.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and nursing care.
  • Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination within 24 hours of admission.
  • Documents all relevant patient information according to unit policies and standards.
  • Initiates referrals and collaborates with medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinates management of patient care.
  • Responds to complex situations calmly, competently, and professionally.
  • Initiates and/or assists in medical emergency activities on the unit.
  • Affords support to the Unit Director in assessing, evaluating, and documenting the competency of all nursing staff members.
  • Provides feedback to the Unit Director on ongoing concerns, improvements, and changes.
  • Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infections by using and teaching hygienic practices.
  • Attends and actively participates in departmental meetings and in-service programs, providing positive suggestions and input.

Qualifications

  • State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License;
  • ACLS Certification;
  • CPR certification required.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing degree.
  • At least 1 year experience as an APRN preferred.
