Responsibilities

  • Procures service and serves as an advocate on behalf of patients, families, and the hospital for scarce resources throughout the continuum of care.
  • Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of groin management on all 4 modalities in the cardiovascular lab:
    • Interventional Cardiology
    • Interventional Radiology
    • Interventional Neuroradiology
    • Interventional Electrophysiology
  • Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination.
  • Identifies areas needing improvement in groin management and identifies medication orders post interventions.
  • Actively participates in the department's performance and improvement program.
  • Provides feedback to unit director on an ongoing basis regarding concerns, improvements, or changes.
  • Reviews and ensures post-interventional anticoagulation medication orders are placed and given during the patient's stay in the hospital.
  • Monitors post-procedure incision sites (groin, radial, popliteal) for bleed or hematoma during the patient's stay in the hospital.
  • Monitors components that may lead to bleeding complications (loss of pulse, hypertension, drop in H/H, platelets, and evaluates patient alertness AAAx3).
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests (U/S, CT, and lab work) to rule out complications; reports results to interventionalists for further evaluation.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic medications (ASA and anti-platelets) if required and notifies interventionalists.
  • Ensures on patient discharge that anti-platelets prescription is filled by the pharmacy or called in for pick-up at an outside pharmacy.
  • Attends and actively participates in departmental meetings to educate receiving floors, in-service programs, and provides positive suggestions and input.
  • Monitors and collects monthly complication reports on patients who have received:
    • More than 2 units of transfused blood
    • Developed: Pseudoaneurysm, AV fistula, Retroperitoneal bleed, Hematoma
    • Treated: Thrombin Injection, US Guided Compression, Covert Stent Placement, Surgery
    All complications are discussed and reviewed with the medical director and panel to address an action plan for future prevention.
  • Reports access site complications on all modalities in CVL to Performance Improvement (PI) on a quarterly basis.
  • Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection by using and teaching hygienic practices.

Requirements

  • State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing.
  • At least 1 year of experience as an APRN preferred.
