Job Description

Shift Differential

Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively administers medically prescribed medications
  • Knows and follows indications and contraindications for therapeutic modalities including PAP, IS, USN, HHN
  • Recommends changes in respiratory care plans based on medical necessity and protocols
  • Instructs and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery, preventing and resolving side effects
  • Adjusts therapies according to protocol and clinical criteria, using data like pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, and lab work
  • Serves as a resource to staff, providing training and instruction, and supervising student preceptorship programs
  • Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining ventilator mode and settings, and re-evaluating patient/ventilator interface every four hours
  • Draws and analyzes arterial blood gases, places arterial lines, and adjusts respiratory management based on blood gas results
  • Responds to emergencies, establishing and maintaining airways, and performing CPR
  • Operates as support staff for cardiopulmonary diagnostics, performing cardiac stress testing, setting up and discontinuing monitors, and other tests as needed
  • Provides assistance with additional services such as sedation, bronchoplasty, bronchoscopy, ultrasound, and band removal as needed
  • Maintains a supportive atmosphere conducive to quality care, department growth, staff development, and high morale
  • Supervises the delivery of cardiopulmonary care in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Maintains patient progress by ensuring effective therapist assessment and reassessment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Patient care skills for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations
  • Intubations and airway management for all populations served
  • Ventilator management for all populations served
  • Arterial line placements
  • Exceptional clinical skills with potential leadership qualities
  • Graduate of an approved school of respiratory therapy or equivalent training
  • 3+ years of hospital experience as RRT
  • FL License Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • NBRC License as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications
  • STABLE education within 6 months of hire date

  • Communicates effectively and documents thoroughly
