About the role

Corecivic is currently seeking Nurse Practitioner Primary Care who have a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.

Responsibilities

Conducts thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.

Diagnoses and treats a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.

Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.

Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.

Provides vaccinations, performs health screenings, and promotes preventive care measures within the correctional population.

Performs basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections.

Monitors and manages chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C.

Ensures proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.

Educates patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.

Collaborates with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.

Responds to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.

Collaborates with emergency medical services or arranges for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.

Participates in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting.

Collaboration and coordination

Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery.

Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.

Participates in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system.

Documentation and compliance

Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.

Adheres to patient confidentiality regulations and ensures the security and privacy of medical records.

Complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.

Professional development

Stays updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations.

Engages in continuous professional development activities.

Provides training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located.
  • Experience in providing primary care or relevant experience in correctional or underserved populations is preferred.
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
